How It Works

1

Select your HEIC files

Drag & drop or click to choose HEIC/HEIF images from your device. No uploads needed — everything stays on your computer.

Download instantly

Your converted files are ready immediately. Download individually or grab them all as a ZIP package.

Why your files stay private

HEIC Converter runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your files are decoded locally with libheif-js and never sent to any server. There's no backend, no upload, no storage — just your device and your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Format & Compatibility

What is HEIC?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default image format since iOS 11. It uses HEVC (H.265) compression to store images at roughly half the file size of JPEG with better quality. HEIC files carry the .heic extension.

Which browsers support HEIC?

Safari on macOS and iOS supports HEIC natively. Chrome, Firefox, and Edge do not have built-in HEIC decoding — that's exactly what this tool solves.

What output formats are available?

PNG (lossless, transparency support), JPEG (lossy, widely compatible), WebP (modern format, smaller files), and BMP (uncompressed, largest size).

Privacy & Security

Is my privacy protected?

Absolutely. The entire conversion happens inside your browser using WebAssembly technology. Your files are never uploaded to any server — they never leave your device. This is a 100% client-side application.

Do you store my images?

No. There is no backend server, no database, and no file storage. Once you close the page or refresh, all converted files are gone from memory.

Usage & Limits

Is there a file size limit?

There's no artificial limit, but browser memory constraints apply. Most devices can handle files up to 100–200 MB without issues. Very large files (500 MB+) may cause browser tab crashes on memory-constrained devices.

Can I convert multiple files at once?

Yes. Drag multiple HEIC files into the drop zone or select them all at once. The tool processes up to 2 files in parallel using Web Workers and lets you download everything as a single ZIP package.

What about EXIF data?

You can toggle EXIF preservation on or off. When enabled, metadata like camera model, date taken, and GPS location are copied to the output. When disabled, all metadata is stripped for maximum privacy.

Can I use this offline?

Yes. HEIC Converter is a Progressive Web App (PWA). After your first visit, you can install it to your device and use it without an internet connection.

Troubleshooting

Why is my file not converting?

Possible causes: the file might be corrupted, use unsupported HEIC encoder features, or exceed your browser's memory limits. Try converting a smaller file first to rule out memory issues.
