Frequently Asked Questions
Does HEIC to JPEG conversion lose quality?
Yes — JPEG is a lossy format. Converting from HEIC (which uses HEVC compression) to JPEG involves re-compression. Using quality settings above 90% minimizes visible loss.
How do I get the smallest file size?
Lower the quality slider to around 70-80%. The file size drops significantly while most photos still look good. For thumbnails or previews, 50-60% is often acceptable.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
Never. All conversion happens 100% in your browser using WebAssembly. Files never leave your device.
What quality setting should I use?
For most uses, 85-92% quality gives the best balance of file size and visual quality. For web use or email, 70-80% is usually sufficient. For print or archiving, use 95%+.
What is HEIC?
HEIC (High-Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default photo format since iOS 11. It uses HEVC/H.265 compression to deliver JPEG-quality images at roughly half the file size.
Why convert to JPEG?
JPEG is the most widely compatible image format in the world. Every browser, OS, and app can open JPEGs. Converting HEIC to JPEG makes your photos easy to share anywhere — email, messaging apps, Windows PCs, Android devices, and web upload forms that don't accept HEIC.
